Disney Speedstorm gets a free Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade

Gameloft has confirmed that its free-to-play online racer, Disney Speedstorm, will receive a complimentary upgrade for Nintendo Switch 2 players at the start of Season 14 on July 3, 2025. This marks one of the first major Switch 2 exclusive enhancements for a third-party title, promising to harness the full power of Nintendo’s next-generation hardware.

When the update goes live, Disney Speedstorm on Switch 2 will run at up to 60 frames per second, double the previous 30 FPS cap, and deliver crisper visuals thanks to a 1080p resolution in handheld mode and a 1440p output when docked. On top of the frame-rate and resolution bump, players will notice richer shadows, improved anti-aliasing and higher-quality shaders, all engineered to make each Disney-themed circuit pop with detail1.

First launched in late 2024, Disney Speedstorm quickly transitioned to a free-to-play model, enlisting characters from across the Disney and Pixar universes, Mickey, Minnie, Woody, Mulan and dozens more, to compete on tracks inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean, The Jungle Book and beyond. Available also on Nintendo Switch since its launch, it has become a go-to pick for fans of arcade-style racing.

Unlike a standalone “Switch 2 Edition,” this is a seamless in-place upgrade, your existing save data and purchased cosmetics will carry over automatically, so there’s no need for manual transfers or new downloads beyond the standard patch. That convenience, combined with the visual and performance gains, has many players eagerly anticipating the drop.

In Gameloft’s own words: “Starting with this season’s update, Nintendo Switch 2 players can expect a much smoother, sharper racing experience thanks to performance enhancements exclusive to the new hardware… Enjoy 1080p in handheld mode and up to 1440p when docked for a crisper, more detailed look. These upgrades are exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 players, so make sure your game is up to date to make the most of what the new console has to offer”.

As viewers gear up for July 3, the community is thriving over which new Disney or Pixar icon will hit the tarmac next, will it be Inside Out’s Joy or maybe Zootopia’s Nick Wilde? Plus, with each new season bringing fresh tracks and challenges, players have plenty to look forward to beyond the technical jump.
