Bloober Team CEO dreams of turning Switch 2 into a horror haven

Bloober Team’s CEO, Piotr Babieno, has made it clear that his ambitions for Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 go far beyond a single game release. In a recent interview with The Game Business, Babieno revealed that he is a lifelong Nintendo fan, having grown up with the company’s consoles, and that he dreams of helping the platform recapture what he calls the “gold time” of horror gaming. He pointed to the GameCube era as a high point, when titles like Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil 4 brought world-class scares to Nintendo hardware. For Babieno, the goal is to open a “new chapter” for horror on Switch 2, one that could stand alongside the genre’s best moments in the company’s history.

The first step in that vision arrives on 5 September with Cronos: The New Dawn, Bloober Team’s upcoming sci-fi survival horror, which will launch on Switch 2 alongside other major platforms. The studio, known for acclaimed titles such as Layers of Fear, The Medium and the Silent Hill 2 remake, has built a reputation for atmospheric, story driven horror. Babieno hinted that Cronos is just the beginning, with more projects already in the works that could further cement the console as a destination for fans of the genre.

Interestingly, Babieno’s vision for horror on Switch 2 is not limited to the traditional dark and oppressive tone. He cited Nintendo’s own Luigi’s Mansion as an example of how the company has successfully blended spooky themes with charm and accessibility, suggesting that Bloober Team might explore similar territory. This openness hints at a potential diversification of horror experiences on the platform, ranging from intense psychological thrillers to more whimsical, family-friendly ghost stories.

While he stopped short of revealing specific future titles, Babieno’s comments suggest a long-term commitment to Nintendo’s ecosystem. He also drew parallels between Bloober Team’s internal culture and Nintendo’s, noting that both companies value stability and avoid layoffs to preserve creative talent. For Switch 2 owners, this could mean a steady pipeline of horror experiences shaped by a studio that not only understands the genre but also respects the platform’s unique identity.
