Yooka-Replaylee arrives on Switch 2 this October with full cartridge release

Playtonic Games has officially announced that Yooka-Replaylee, the remade and enhanced edition of its 2017 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee, will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 9, 2025. Both digital and physical editions available. The Switch 2 physical release is particularly notable, as it will include the full game on the cartridge rather than a “game-key card” that requires an additional download, a move warmly welcomed by collectors and preservation advocates.

Yooka-Replaylee is a huge remaster, built by key creative talent behind classics like Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country, it reimagines the original adventure with upgraded visuals, smoother animations, and enhanced performance. The story has been refined, with new sequences and plot points woven in at key milestones, while the buddy duo Yooka and Laylee now have access to their full move set from the start, allowing for more fluid gameplay. Camera controls have been overhauled, addressing one of the most common criticisms of the original release.

The game also introduces brand-new content. Rextro’s old minigames have been replaced with isometric platforming challenges, there’s a new collectible currency scattered across the worlds, and Tonics return with expanded customization options so players can tailor their playstyle. Navigation has been improved with a detailed map, collectibles tracker, and a new character, Mark, who serves as a warp point and guide. The soundtrack, composed by Grant Kirkhope and David Wise, has been fully re-recorded as a lush orchestral score.

Publisher PM Studios will handle the physical edition, which includes retail-exclusive extras for $49.99, while the digital version will be priced at $29.99. Players who already own the original Yooka-Laylee on Switch will be eligible for a 30% discount on the Switch 2 digital edition, rewarding long-time fans for their support.

It's a combination of nostalgia, modern refinements, and a commitment to physical preservation. Yooka-Replaylee aims to deliver the definitive version of Playtonic’s colorful collectathon, and for Switch 2 owners, October 9 marks the return of a platforming duo that’s bigger, brighter, and bolder than ever.
