Square Enix’s beloved action RPG Star Ocean: First Departure R is finally making the leap from digital to physical on Nintendo Switch, thanks to a new collaboration with Limited Run Games. The announcement has thrilled fans of the long-running sci-fi fantasy series, as this marks the first time the enhanced remake will be available in a collectible boxed format for the hybrid console
Pre-orders open September 12, 2025 at 7:00 a.m. PT / 10:00 a.m. ET and will run until October 26, 20252. Every edition will include a booklet, but players can choose from three distinct editions:

SteelBook Bundle Edition: $79.99 - Game, rigid slipcase, SteelBook case, two-sided poster

Originally released on PSP in 2007, Star Ocean: First Departure was itself a remake of the 1996 Super Famicom original, the first time Western audiences could officially experience the debut entry in the Star Ocean saga. First Departure R builds on that foundation with:
